WebAbstract Greater trochanteric pain is one of the common complaints in orthopedics. Frequent diagnoses include myofascial pain, trochanteric bursitis, tendinosis and rupture of the gluteus medius and minimus tendon, and external snapping hip. Furthermore, nerve entrapment like the piriformis syndrome must be considered in the differential diagnosis. WebPiriformis syndrome is a condition characterized by sciatic symptoms (leg pain) due to extrapelvic sciatic nerve compression at the hip. Diagnosis is made clinically with pain in the posterior gluteal region and migrating down the back of the leg which is made worse with flexion, adduction, and internal rotation of hip.
