The body responds to this by increasing the number of pain receptors in the head, so that the head becomes excessively sensitive and pain is felt all the time. WebThere are four phases to a migraine attack: prodrome, aura, headache and postdrome, summarised in Figure 1. The prodrome, caused by hypothalamic activation, is associated with dopaminergic symptoms of yawning, fatigue and polyuria as well as altered food cravings. It can precede the rest of the migraine by hours to days. 6 Figure 1.
