Sometimes, it takes a while for Dwarves to do anything. There really needs to be a "seriously, stop carrying barrels around AND DO THIS ONE THING" button.

As soon as a siege start unassign all your livestock from their pastures, they will automatically slowly move towards the meeting halls and if your entrance is close they will survive. I checked that the standing orders are to move bodies, and it says dwarves gather bodies. I have many with the refuse hauling and burial labors enabled. There are no burrow alerts on. There are dwarves available for work. The job to move corpses is not even appearing in the jobs list, nor is it getting done.

WebJan 25, 2013 · Corpses and items marked for dumping are considered refuse, so if you haven't changed that, your dwarves will ignore any corpses outside. Also, some animals are simply too small to butcher. Some, including ducks, geese, and capybaras, would only give a skull if butchered alive, so dwarves won't bother butchering them dead. Logged.
